Welcome to My New Blog
Welcome!
My first blog
Hello everyone my name is Dano Silvers and welcome to new blog. I am a senior at Radford University. This blog is going to revolve around my passion, fitness. There are many different fitness blogs and about different forms of fitness. However, my blog is going to revolve around the fitness and living a healthy lifestyle college students can achieve, and the struggles many students go through while at school.
Here’s a little about me. Growing up in Michigan, my life revolved around hockey. I played competitively in Michigan for the Ann Arbor Wolves. Through the Wolves minor league system I was lucky enough to work with the USA hockey development program. This was my first taste of a weight room and off ice conditioning. I remember at the time my I had no idea how lucky I was. The strength and conditioning coach for the USA under 17 and under 18 team was the first person to put me through a workout. After that I was hooked.
In high school my family and I moved to the Northern Virginia area. I continued to play hockey. My freshman year I played for the Reston Raiders, and at the time we were the best in the state. Through the Raiders minor league system I was blessed again to work with such a great strength and conditioning coach. The coach I was working with the Washington Capitals strength and conditioning coach. He ran us into the ground. I remember thinking at the time that the workouts we were doing weren’t going to correlate to anything. The workouts involved jumping off of boxes and many slow eccentric workouts. The reason for these workouts was to build the fundamentals. Create a framework to build off of.
Fast forwarding my life I continued to play hockey and continued to have great fitness influencers in my life. It wasn’t until senior when I considered it a possible profession. At Chantilly High School I attended the first personal trainer class ever in the school’s history. The class ranged from memorizing the different muscles in the body, to creating a program, to learning proper form for all the workouts. The class had me hooked. I even took the test the ACE personal trainer test to get certified.
First semester my freshman year was the downfall in my personal health. I couldn’t find the time to go to the gym, nor did I have that same passion I once had. This concept is the whole idea for my blog. In college many struggle with continuing a healthy lifestyle they once lived. Fear less I hold your hand and walk you through scary times.
Tune in next week where I go more in depth how to find the time to fit the gym into your schedule.
Thanks guys
